The Bariatric Coordinator is a clinical professional with advanced skills, is responsible for supervising and coordinating the flow of patient care between the practice(s) and the Methodist Dallas Medical Center bariatric program. In conjunction with the Director of Nutrition Services, the Bariatric Coordinator is accountable for all aspects of the program including; quality of care, promotion of services and overall coordination of care. The Bariatric Coordinator will be responsible to promote excellence in clinical practices, optimal efficiency and productivity of all resources. The Bariatric Coordinator works with the community, medical staff, clinical STAFFnd administration to ensure success of the bariatric program.

  • Bachelors degree (B.A., B.S.) in appropriate discipline is preferred
  • Certification in bariatric preferred
  • Licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Texas.

Your Job Responsibilities :

  • Coordinate pathways, standardized operating procedures, long term follow up and support groups by maintaining a comprehensive pathway outlining the continuum care of the bariatric surgery patient (informed consent, patient education seminar to surgery and beyond, perioperative care to include anesthesia and airway management, standard operating procedures, post op care complication recognition and routine follow up).
  • Coordinate staff education for departments (Bariatric, ED, Surgery, Radiology, ICU, In-patient Units), recognizing complications signs/symptoms, completing sensitivity training and safe patient handling/movement in cooperation with DOE.
  • Ensure designated bariatric surgery areas in hospital services and institute actively participate in quarterly nurse education, unit based meetings and process teams to improve bariatric surgery care and outcomes. Meet regularly with ED, ICU, Radiology, Day Surgery, In-Patient units for effective communication, problem identification and resolution.
  • Establish and monitor participation in bariatric data registry, assuring database compliance including procedures, accuracy of data collection, abstracting timeliness, follow-up, and data reporting. Complete monthly review of outcome measures to monitor composite quality performance index. Perform activities in a manner that protects patient privacy and ensures compliance with all relevant HIPAA regulations.
  • Monitor Bariatric Surgical Safety protocols, SCIP core measures, evaluate institute bariatric data and develop CQI process improvement programs annually.
  • Plan, implement and coordinate standard requirements of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS) and American College of Surgeon's (ACS) throughout the hospital and institute for comprehensive designation as a Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program (MBSAQIP). Maintain all data required by the Accreditation Program.
Facilitate all quarterly Bariatric Committee Meetings.
Facilitate Patient Support Group.
Other duties as assigned.
