POSITION SUMMARY:
This is a full time position within the Schertz Police Department Communications Center. Requires knowledge of how to operate department base radio console equipment by transmitting and receiving routine and emergency messages; receives emergency and routine requests for services from the public via 9-1-1, alternate emergency lines, and business lines; dispatches appropriate emergency personnel in response to those requests, in accordance with established policies and procedures; coordinates communications between various departmental personnel during emergency operations; operates data terminals for information pertaining to daily public safety operations, and general emergency services; maintains written and computerized logs, files and information in the prescribed manner.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Is required to work odd and unusual hours, including weekends and designated holidays, and to be subject to call-back when the need arises.
- Answers incoming 911 and alternate emergency lines, and business lines.
- Relays instructions or questions to various field units.
- Coordinates communications between emergency services and other field units.
- Operates a variety of communications equipment, according to related Federal Communication Commission regulations. Transmits and receives messages between divisions of own agency and other law enforcement agencies.
- Operate the Computer Network System and programs assigned to the Communications Section.
- Maintains appropriate documentation of all complaints, calls for service, radio transmissions and activities.
- Tracks location and status of field units.
- Requires the ability to communicate effectively with people in a variety of stressful, traumatic or emergency situations.
- Perform with a high standard of customer service, professional conduct and civic responsibility.
- May perform other assignments and handle special projects as required.
- Employees may be required to search prisoners as the need arises.
EDUCATION AND EXPIERENCE REQUIREMENTS
- A High School Diploma or GED required.
- Minimum of least 18 years of age.
CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES REQUIRED
- Must possess a valid Texas Driver’s license.
- Licensed Public Safety Telecommunications from Texas Commission on Law Enforcement. Must be obtained within one year of employment.
- TCIC/NCIC certification from Texas Department of Public Safety.
- Emergency Medical Dispatch Certification. Must be obtained within one year of employment.
