Reports to: Director and Supervising Teacher

Schedule/travel: Full-time academic calendar year position. Must be able to work a flexible schedule as needed during the program’s operating hours of 7:30 am-5:30pm. Requiring at least 3 afternoons through 5:30 pm.

FLSA: Non-exempt Classification: Staff Position Summary:

In conjunction with the Director, Head Teacher, and other staff, assist in implementing a wide variety of developmentally appropriate activities that promote the development of the whole child: cognitive and physical (gross- and fine-motor) growth, language development, positive self-esteem, social skills and multi-cultural experiences in a material rich environment. Flexibility to work with all staff and all groups of children equally well. Prior experience is Early Childhood is preferred.

Primary Responsibilities include:

  • Familiarity with and ability to abide by all of the Center’s policies as outlined in the ‘ELC Policies & Staff Info’ binder in the office including NAEYC’s ‘Code of Ethical Conduct’
  • Work closely with classroom team to ensure that teamwork and communication is enhanced and maintained and a high-quality program for children is provided at all times.
  • Develop and maintain an open and respectful relationship with parents. Provide care with regard for the parents’ wishes. Refer parental concerns to supervising classroom Teacher and communicate pertinent issues to Teacher or Director
  • Provide a safe, healthy physical and emotional environment for all children. Actively supervise & interact with children regularly throughout the day.
  • Assist with ongoing daily & weekly cleaning responsibilities as outlined on the cleaning charts posted on each classroom’s refrigerator
  • Professional growth; completion of a self-evaluation process; document ongoing staff development activities consistent with the professional development requirements including work shops, conferences, and in-service training. Staff are required to complete 1% of hours worked annually in professional development in conjunction with the State of CT Licensing Requirements
  • Use positive discipline techniques to manage classroom behavior in accordance with the Center’s Child Guidance Policy, understanding of your role as a Mandated Reporter of Child Abuse

Physical Requirements:
The physical demands listed below are representative of those that must be met by the employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job:

  • Requires substantial movement
  • Visual acuity within normal parameters.
  • Ability to lift up to 40 lbs. without assistance.

Additional Requirements:

  • Successful completion of post-offer, pre-employment criminal background checks and drug test.
  • Maintain punctual and regular attendance.
  • Work is performed on a smoke free campus.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Certification in First Aid and CPR
