Diabetes Nurse Educator
DESCRIPTION OF POSITION:
- A professional nurse with a minimum of 2 years experience who provides a variety of teaching for staff, patients, families and the community. The focus areas are staff education, patient/family education, and community education.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
- Coordinates and participates in the orientation process of new employees including blood glucose testing (Inform II).
- Coordinates and maintains patient/family/staff education programs.
- Coordinates and participates in community/screening programs.
- Communicates with other departments/disciplines in providing quality care to patients and/or family.
- Develops and revises policies and procedures for Patient Care Services.
- Serves as liaison between administration, the physicians, and ancillary departments in order to affect positive outcomes.
- Maintains educational office records for hospital.
- Documents accurately according to nursing policy.
- Has knowledge of and utilizes a variety of equipment in Patient Care Service.
EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE
- BSN preferred.
- 2 years clinical experience.
- Current RN license in Louisiana or multi-state compact license.
- Current CPR requirement - BLS
- Ability to read and analyze and interpret clinical reports and medical data; Ability to respond to common inquiries and complaints from patients. Ability to communicate with patient, family, peers and medical personnel.
Physical Demands/Work Environment
- Work requires a variety of physical activities including standing and walking for long periods of time, bending, stooping and lifting.
- Must be able to exchange accurate information with patient, family, peers and medical personnel.
- Must have normal hearing.
