    Position Summary:

    The Director of Special Services performs complex professional and administrative work planning, directing and supervising the development, implementation and operation of an effective, total instructional program for students who receive special education services, Section 504, and students receiving other related service including designated state and federal programs, ensuring the compliance of the program with local, state and federal regulations. Work involves setting policies and goals under the direction of the Superintendent. Departmental supervision is exercised over all personnel within the department.

    Position Requirements:
    The Director of Special Services must demonstrate accomplished leadership skills, excellent organizational skills, highly developed communications skills, and successful supervision and management experience with multiple programs. Director of Special Education Administrative Licensure is required. Minimum of two years of successful administrative experience is preferred.

    Physical Demands:
    This work requires the occasional exertion of up to 10 pounds of force; work regularly requires speaking or hearing, frequently requires sitting and using hands to finger, handle or feel and occasionally requires standing, walking, reaching with hands and arms, pushing or pulling, lifting and repetitive motions; work has standard vision requirements; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word and conveying detailed or important instructions to others accurately, loudly or quickly; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels and to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, operating machines, operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities; work has no exposure to environmental conditions; work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office, light traffic).

    Other Skills & Abilities:
    Comprehensive knowledge of applicable state and federal regulations, rules and obligations of a special education provider, comprehensive knowledge of the principles, practices and procedures of regular and special education administration; comprehensive knowledge of the principles, practices and procedures of the School District; comprehensive knowledge of curriculum and program development for special students; thorough knowledge of staff evaluation criteria and directives of special education programming; thorough skill in the use of personal computers and related software packages, hardware and peripheral equipment; ability to communicate complex ideas effectively in both oral and written forms; ability to develop and present ideas effectively, orally and in written form; ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with school officials, staff, Board, parents and the general public. Must understand and comply with all protocols related to data privacy and mandated reporting. Ability to perform duties with an awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.
    Salary Range:
    Competitive Salary (52 week contract)
