The Executive Director of Construction is responsible for managing an assigned team of construction Senior Project Managers and Project Managers for the Retail and Healthcare Business Unit’s construction process. The position is responsible for the entire development, budgeting and construction process in an assigned region/market as well as staff, vendor and cost management. The incumbent will support corporate initiatives related to construction, manage an overall construction budget in excess of $250M, and report on capital and expense deliverables.

Responsibilities include strategy, brand consistency/alignment, construction activities, process improvements and cost reductions/ROI improvements. This position requires creating a clear vision, strong team leadership and having the ability to influence key stakeholders to deliver consistent best-in-class branded facilities. Business units supported may include any of the following: Retail, Aetna, Shared Services, PBM (Specialty, Mail, and Anthem), Coram, Omnicare, Multi-Dose and any healthcare related project/initiative. This position will provide leaders across the Enterprise with construction expertise, as well as develop a cohesive team environment for all participants in the execution process.

  • Partner with all Retail and Enterprise Business Units on their Construction needs/requirements, becoming an integral part of the team for decision making and process compliancy. 30%
  • Support the Construction Project Planning Process with alignment on execution requirements. Support annual budget development and planning activities for Business Units in collaboration with the Planning teams. Execute all construction projects by utilizing direct report Senior Project Managers, Project Managers and Outsource Project Management support when required. 20%
  • Fiscal responsibilities include ensuring budget compliance and justification of capital spend. Manage / support monthly financial review and draws by project, year end accrual efforts, and close out process for all projects. 30%
  • Coordinate with Business Units and A&E on establishing standards and ensuring those standards are used in all designs. Ensure material, equipment and services required for up-coming projects are contracted in sufficient time to be used during execution. Coordinate with A&E on material/equipment standards and with Construction Vendor Management and Procurement on contracting documents, and with Construction PMO on schedule and risk management efforts 20%

Pay Range
The typical pay range for this role is:
Minimum: 131,500
Maximum: 297,250

Please keep in mind that this range represents the pay range for all positions in the job grade within which this position falls. The actual salary offer will take into account a wide range of factors, including location.

Required Qualifications
  • 10+ national program, multi-unit construction experience required.
  • 10+ experience directing a team of construction professionals to include: demonstrated people management and leadership skills, including the ability to motivate, develop, delegate, and make effective business decisions
  • Solid understanding of retail and health care real estate practices and principles
  • Working knowledge of the various disciplines involved in the store development process, from market analysis to store opening.
  • Working knowledge of the various attributes of health care facilities, regulatory requirements, industry standards of experience
