Food Access Manager Job at The Kingston Farmers Market
The Food Access Manager will manage, execute and grow the market’s goals around food justice, food access, accessibility and inclusivity at the Kingston Farmers Market. This position has strong involvement in the local food and wellness systems, as well as a focus on community outreach. The Food Access Manager will report to the Board of Directors and work alongside the Operations Manager in a co-managerial role.
This is a part-time, year-round salaried position of approx 12 hours per week paying $23/hour. This position has room for growth in areas of management and leadership, marketing, fundraising and program development.
The position requires the ability to work independently as well as within a team, and to communicate effectively with a variety of people including: customers, vendors, staff and board members, and leaders of fellow nonprofits and community groups. Employees must be reliable, self-motivated and have strong communication and organizational skills.
Must be willing and able to work on Saturdays outside in all weather conditions.
Must be proficient in Google Docs and Sheets, Excel, Social Media, and Video Communication Apps, with willingness to learn new software such as Airtable and Government Applications.
The ideal candidate would be a person who:
- Is passionate about advocacy for food security and localized food systems.
- Has a background in event coordination and/or local food systems work.
- Has an understanding of operations of a non-profit organization.
Responsibilities:
- Be on site at the market from 8:30 AM -1:30 PM each Saturday to manage market currencies
- Manage the EBT/SNAP program and additional benefit programs including: maintain weekly currency logs, generate yearly reports, be the liaison between the market and government agencies (local and state), re-apply for programs each season and make sure all currencies are in stock to necessary amounts, print and obtain as necessary
- Coordinate outreach to local nonprofits and community groups: Schedule and manage the community tents and educational events for the season
- Work with the Operations Manager to manage community tents and seasonal events as well as coordinating necessary signage and supplies.
- Attend seasonal vendor meetings and oversee vendor education about how to accept and be reimbursed for benefit programs and market currencies
- Involvement in yearly Sponsorship drive
- Manage yearly Mentorship+Grant program
- Develop and Manage food related programming for the market, including Power of Produce Club (POP), workshops, and collaborative community events.
- Marketing and promotion including print, digital and radio in relation to events, programs and outreach related to food and community access.
- Create social media and website news items related to food and community access events and programs.
- Attend training, conferences and community meetings in connection with government assistance programs and local food systems including Farmers Market Fed of NY, Eat Well Kingston, Double Up Food Bucks, ect..
- Independent and self-motivated research and outreach in local communities and the local food system.
- Work with the Board of Directors to innovate and execute ways for the market to continue its DEI goals.
- Attend a minimum of 1 monthly Board meeting
