Job Summary
This posting will be used to fill one full-time General Repair Worker vacancy at the Minnesota Veterans Home-Silver Bay. This position is eligible for benefits.
This position will make repairs and adjustments to equipment, furniture, buildings and building systems. Operates and maintains vehicles, lawn mowers, skid loaders and other equipment. Perform carpentry projects. Mows grass, removes snow, and adjusts and repairs underground lawn irrigation system. Assists in moving furniture and unloading trucks.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
Valid Class D driver’s license
Knowledge of:
General methods and practices of a variety of trade areas (e.g. mechanics, masonry, welding, electrical, plumbing and carpentry) sufficient to assist licensed trades workers and repair machinery, tools and facilities in a timely and safe manner
Occupational hazards and safety measures related to trades work sufficient to safely and efficiently perform job duties
Ability to:
Safely use hand and power tools
Safely operate and maintain trucks, tractors and other ground and road and maintenance equipment
Follow instructions
Provide work instructions to unskilled helpers
Preferred Qualifications
Computer knowledge sufficient to use specific maintenance software
Additional Requirements
This position requires successful completion of the following:
- A Minnesota Department of Human Services (DHS) background check will be conducted on all finalists for this position. Finalists must pass the DHS background check
- A Tuberculosis (Mantoux) screening (or chest x-ray) is required prior to employment
- Employee reference checks will be conducted on all finalists. This may include a review of documentation related to job performance. It also includes contact with the applicant's former employer(s)
- Finalists will be required to pass a driver's license check
