Overview:
Grinding Operator is the last person in the flow weld lines before hanging the product to the paint conveyor line. His/her responsibility is to ensure that the product is inspected and checked for quality defects such as; weld holes, burn through, welding wire antennas, bad welds, sharp edges, and/or missing parts before hanging to the paint conveyer lines. Tools that are required for this position are as follow; air grinders, dual action air sanders, tape measure, and a plus if you are able to weld with a MIG welding unit.
Responsibilities:
Key Responsibilities (Essential Job Functions):
- Works with Supervisor and Team Leads to ensure required product is produced.
- Operate grinder to remove excess burrs, welding wire, etc. as necessary following the grinding techniques used in our shop.
- Know the product and product numbers used in the grinding process.
- Record production output on daily reports, including part/model number and quantities.
- Perform visual and periodic measurement inspections of parts/products to maintain conformance with quality
- standards, using prints as the guide. Inform the Supervisor/Team Lead of any problems.
- Monitor the parts used and the parts required for production, and notify the Supervisor/Team Lead of material requirements and shortages.
- Place completed products on conveyor lines, basket, or stackall as designated.
- Know proper hook use and distance between parts on the conveyor line.
- Keep skids and stackalls neat and orderly.
- Know and observe all safety rules and use safety equipment as required for safe operation on the job. Keep work area in a clean and orderly condition.
- Wear appropriate clothing and Personal Protective Equipment (P.P.E.).
- Have knowledge of emergency shut-offs.
- Report to Supervisor or Maintenance any mechanical problem with the grinders or lift tables.
- Know how to operate handcarts.
- Set personal goals and objectives with Team and Management and continue to look for ways to improve quality and productivity.
- Perform any other duties required by the Team or Management.
Key
characteristics
:
- Knowledge of basic grinding techniques, be able to read a tape measure.
- Ability to manipulate a forklift, if designated as an operator. Must pass respirator clearance and periodic medical exams
- Must be able to consistently lift product from waist height to shoulder height and carry up to 15 ft.
- Product from up to 60 lb. is a one-man job, 60 lbs. and up is a two-man job, maximum lift is 120lbs.
