What would you do from day-to-day, and what are the requirements?

Use your love and knowledge of plants and ornamental gardening. Devote yourself to your client’s enjoyment of their gardens through leading and working alongside a small, dedicated crew of gardeners. Direct your crew in weeding, proper trimming, fertilizing, mulching, planting/transplanting, diagnosing pests, and general garden care.

  • Do fine gardening for clients of assigned gardening accounts, anticipate needs, communicate recommendations, ensure requests are met and problems are solved
  • Guide and work alongside a crew in effectively and efficiently maintaining gardens to an exceptional standard guided by proper horticultural practices
  • Collaborate with the head gardener to adapt and augment gardens as they grow, fulfilling design intentions
  • Identify plants, soil types, weeds, and pests and match to maintenance requirements
  • Anticipate logistics of jobs such as material deliveries, setting up equipment
  • Apply or oversee the application of pesticides using integrated pest management techniques
  • Liaise with Owner and Operations Manager regarding personnel actions
  • Keep and organize job notes, expenses, and invoicing information for each visit
  • Recommend innovations to gardening crew operating procedures
  • Partners with Owner on multiple facets of business operation
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Schedule
7am-5:30pm M-F. Saturdays used as makeup rain days and during busy season.
Season runs from late February to mid-December
Winter planning and setup for following season may be requested but is not guaranteed

Requirements
Experience in ornamental gardening and/or horticulture (identification, planting, soil health, disease and pest treatment, etc.) required.
Education or certification in horticulture or a similar field is preferred

Job location - Ann Arbor, MI

Pay - $17-22.5/hr
