Calliope Health is a psychedelic-assisted therapy startup located in Bethesda, MD. We are seeking an experienced, communicative, and compassionate psychiatrist to join our team of dedicated healers to provide Ketamine-assisted psychotherapy.

You’re a perfect fit for this job if you:

  • Psychiatric-Mental Health NP, PA, or physician with scope of practice that includes diagnosing and treating mental health conditions
  • Have clinical experience or deep understanding of ketamine and how it can be used to treat mental health
  • Have exceptional bedside manner and a patient-centered attitude
  • Have the skill to confidently conduct psychiatric evaluations and diagnose depression/anxiety
  • Are familiar with interventional psychiatry practices
  • Understand how a patient’s beliefs about treatment, in addition to treatment providers’ attitudes and actions (set and setting), contribute to whether that patient receives a benefit from the treatment and complies with treatment plan and recommendations
  • Are well-versed with the pros and cons of the strict medical model of psychedelic healing and are aware of the strengths and limitations of strictly psychological models of somatic disease.
  • Are familiar with or willing to be trained in Internal Family Systems therapy, an emerging, evidence-based revision to DSM-oriented conceptualization of pathology
  • Share our concern about potential for ketamine dependency or addiction and want to: 1) Aggressively coordinate with the patient’s treatment team for post-KAP behavioral and strategic interventions, and 2) Help us find academic research partners to facilitate legal alternatives to ketamine
  • Ensure patient information is accurately, carefully, and completely documented.
  • Work and function in a culturally competent capacity with a diverse community of patients.
  • Possess and utilize exemplary interpersonal and communication skills with all health team members and support staff, and with our patients.
  • Be able to work independently without consultation of an on-premise Medical Doctor.
  • At least 1 year of experience. May consider less experience if other attributes are compelling.

Key Responsibilities

  • Screen and assess patients via psychiatric evaluations, including interviews, medical histories, physical exams, observations, and psychological testing
  • Prescribe/administer medications according to diagnosis
  • Monitor patients to determine efficacy of medications
  • Develop treatment plans, measure progress, and make adjustments as needed
  • Provide crisis intervention when needed
  • Complete clinical documentation in an accurate and timely manner
  • Ketamine-assisted Psychotherapy (you are responsible for training but we will share recommendations and can provide referrals to training and ketamine-consulting physicians)
  • Supervise and train prescribers and therapists in evidence-based treatment modalities

Required Qualifications

  • Active license in Maryland
  • Degree from an accredited medical school, plus completion of an approved psychiatric residency
  • Current License and DEA registration
  • Excellent knowledge and familiarity with current DSM-5 criteria
  • Strong functional knowledge of general psychiatric principles and practices
  • Ketamine/psychedelic integration therapy training is highly desired.
  • Maintain license void of personal and/or professional misconduct
  • Be able to pass a background check including all educational requirements and licensing
  • Have your own malpractice insurance
  • Excellent IV skills
  • Effective written, verbal and electronic communication skills
  • Ability to work without direct supervision and practice autonomously
  • Able to collaborate with professional colleagues as necessary to provide superior quality care
  • Great organizational skills and the ability to multitask
  • Excellent familiarity with EHR and able to incorporate Calliope Health staff into your EHR.
