Piano/Voice Teacher (2 year experience, part-time) Job at Music Pillars
Hello and thank you for reviewing our posting for this position.
Music Pillars is looking to hire an intermediate/advanced Piano Instructor to teach at 4S Ranch/Del Sur location.
The applicant needs to have at least an intermediate ability on the piano (Level 3A Faber).
We are substantially different as a Music Studio in a few key areas:
1. All students (except for Early Childhood students age 2-6) have two (2) teachers, not just one. This is an extremely gratifying way to teach students, and provides a more holistic educational experience for the student. It also demands much more from individual teachers because their lesson notes must be clear, coherent, and concise because they are communicating their lessons planx with another professional teacher on a weekly basis. However this does make for a much more collaborative, engaging, and fun environment for teachers (and students as well).
Schedule
Applicants should not consider applying unless they can commit to at least 3 (three) of the 5 days per week.
We are seeking candidates who are genuinely interested in Musical Education as a profession, or already have experience in Music Education. If you have classroom instructional experience that is a plus, but not required.
A little more about who we are and what we do can be found at www.musicpillars.com, or our modest Youtube Channel:

We teach around a core curriculum that involves "Eight Pillars." You would need to have basic understandings/competency in all of them. Our curriculum uses multiple apps (iOS) as well as Yamaha CVP pianos to augment the student's experience. We have a ball! Typically teachers are not able to demonstrate proficiency in all 8 pillars, and that's ok so long as you are willing to learn and become proficient in the areas that you currently are deficient in.
The following are requirements for the position:
1. Bachelors Degree in Music, or a minimum 1-2 years professional playing experience with college-level musical knowledge/skills.
2. Genuine interest in teaching, and a sincere interest in working with students age 8 - 18.
2a. Must have previous experience teaching and working with children
3. Be able to satisfactorily pass an audition that includes the following:
a. Play 1-2 pieces for us (3-5 minutes)
b. Some basic theory questions given
c. Some basic ear training tests (chords, intervals)
d. Sight Reading - we will have you sight read an intermediate piece of music (Faber level 4 approximate)
f. Fake Book - we will take a song from a fake book and have you to play it for us. For many applicants - this is a foreign language - if you are not competent here you can still apply, and we may still hire you - just understand that we will require some work by you in this regard.
The following are preferences but not requirements for this position:
1. Vocal Degree
2. Previous Musical Theater Experience
3. Previous Dance/Choreography Experience
4. Previous Musical Education Experience
Lessons are all taught at our studio at 10710 Thornmint Rd, Suite 201 San Diego, CA 92127
If you are interested, please send me a cover letter about yourself, and a link to a recording or two of you (audio or video is fine). A short Video Cover letter is STRONGLY ENCOURAGED and appreciated as well.
