Postdoctoral Research Associate in Radiation Detector Characterization and Modeling Job at Los Alamos National Laboratory

Los Alamos National Laboratory Los Alamos, NM

What You Will Do

The Space Science and Applications group (ISR-1) at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) is seeking candidates for a postdoctoral position for radiation detector characterization and simulation modeling, working closely with the Advanced Nuclear Technology group (NEN-2).

The Intelligence and Space Research (ISR) Division at LANL has been designing, building, and operating highly innovative ground, air, and space-based radiation measurement and detection systems for nearly 60 years (space.lanl.gov). We solve some of the most challenging scientific and national security problems facing the world today. Our interdisciplinary teams of engineers, technicians, and scientists work, learn, and succeed through a highly creative and dynamic R&D environment. Additionally, we are engaged in a number of other pioneering basic-science missions including: planetary nuclear spectroscopy, gamma-ray astrophysics, and space situational awareness. We have an international reputation in the detection of nuclear phenomenology and in support of these missions we develop satellite-based x-ray, gamma-ray, neutron, and charged particle detectors to measure natural and artificial radiation in space.

As an ISR-1 postdoctoral researcher, you will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team in a collaborative technical research environment. Our postdocs are key collaborators in the development of innovative solutions to important technical challenges and in implementing new technology.
