POSITION SUMMARY:
The Marathon Dickinson Renewable Diesel Facility is currently seeking a full-time Refinery Operator Technician to join our team. The Operator Technician is responsible for the safe, environmentally compliant, reliable, and efficient operation of refinery process units, utilities, and/or oil movements.
Operator technicians will be trained in the specific area(s) of responsibility and report to the Shift Foreman of Refinery Operations. This position is in Dickinson, ND.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
The successful candidate will be responsible for the following:
- Live and demonstrate MPC’s core values.
- Wear all protective equipment including a self-contained breathing apparatus along with the ability to participate in emergency response activities.
- Learn refining process operations and qualify for process jobs in the assigned area.
- Complete tasks assigned by leadership in a manner consistent with MPC’s Operations Excellence standards. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, sensory and documented rounds to monitor the units, equipment isolation, collecting stream samples, executing operator-performed maintenance, and writing safe work permits.
- Technicians typically work a 12-hour shift, on a day/night rotation, and must be available for overtime.
- If assigned to a tank farm role, learn tank farm product movements, and qualify for tank farm jobs. Duties include, but are not limited to, monitoring the tank levels and transfers, tank gauging, equipment isolation, collecting tank samples, and writing safe work permits.
- Detect and respond to process upsets and emergency situations with response activities including but not limited to firefighting, equipment isolation, and evacuation.
- Maintain a clean work area.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Successful candidates must possess, at a minimum, the following criteria:
- High School Diploma or GED.
- At least 18 years of age.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Basic math, reading, writing, and verbal skills along with basic computer skills.
- Willingness to perform fire and emergency response activities.
- Willingness to work a rotating shift schedule and overtime as required by business needs.
- Additionally, candidates must have the ability to learn complex refinery-related material.
- Be fit to perform the essential functions of the job.
- Adherence to a strict Drug and Alcohol policy.
- Ability to lift, push, and/or pull up to 50 lbs.
- Previous operator or petrochemical plant experience is a plus.
- Relevant education, training, and/or work experience is preferred, such as:
- Two years vocational technical training curriculum in petrochemical/manufacturing or related field OR
- Two years equivalent work experience in a process operational/maintenance craft area OR
- Five years of stable work experience in a light industrial or commercial industry.
Operator Technicians work in a safety-sensitive environment and must successfully complete a rigorous pre-employment assessment process, drug/alcohol and medical screenings, and a background check. To ensure safe operations, new hires must also successfully complete maintenance qualification training and participate in random drug and alcohol screenings. Successful applicants will begin employment on April 3, 2023.
