24 Hours - Schedule: Sunday, Wed & Thursday 8am -4pm

We are looking for compassionate people to provide overnight support in our community based group homes for adults with developmental disabilities, brain injuries or mental illness in a comfortable home setting. The dedicated staff member have the option of sleeping during overnight hours unless individuals needs dictate otherwise. The Asleep Overnight Counselor is required to be awake during early morning hours to assist individuals with morning preparations. (Usually within the hours 6am to 9am)

Must have a high school diploma/GED, valid driver's license in state of residence and a desire to provide direct care and support. Due to the Behavioral nature of this program, experience with implementing behavior plans and experience deescalating and performing physical restraints is required.

  • This position is Union represented by a bargaining unit of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees. (AFSME).
Responsibilities:
Responsibilities:
1. Be on site and available (may be asleep) to provide consumer support and assistance as needed.
2. Attend to the needs of consumers on an individual basis as well as foster increased independence and self-determination.
3. Supervise and document consumer self-administration of medication as prescribed by a physician in accordance with agency and program procedures.
4. Record and appropriately utilize necessary data, daily progress notes, staff log and complete all other ISP and program required documentation as assigned.
5. Transport consumers to day programs and other activities as required.
6. Ensure client safety and comply with program standards for staff coverage, including assistance to the Administrator-On-Call whenever needed.
7. Act as advocate and role model.
8. Provide a supportive environment that includes opportunities for consumers to determine, to the fullest extent possible, personal preferences for daily schedules and routines.
9. Maintain knowledge of ongoing program issues and developments as well as informing supervisor of program issues and concerns.
10. Communicate in a professional manner.
11. Perform other related work duties as needed or as assigned by program manager or designee.
12. Perform duties consistent with program and agency policies and procedures.
13. Execute duties to reflect reasonable safety standards. Universal/standard precautions must be utilized and training obtained in areas that constitute risk.
Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalency, Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Previous experience working with individuals with brain injury, developmental and/or physical disabilities preferred.
  • Ability to record data using a computer, enter time worked into an electronic system and receive and send email required.
  • A valid driver's license in state of residence; at least two years’ driving experience and satisfactory driving record.
  • Ability to comprehend materials related to medication administration, ISP’s, PBS and ADL programs.
  • Ability to speak and write English clearly and accurately in order to keep documentation up to date and understandable.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing with persons served, families, service providers and funding source personnel.
  • Ability to lift, transfer, push/pull, maneuver, and reposition 25 pounds on a regular basis and occasionally up to 50/60 pounds depending upon program.
  • Ability to reach, bend, stand, sit and walk; perform fine motor activities.
  • Work effectively in a moderate to occasionally loud work environment.
  • Must have experience implementing behavior plans and performing physical restraints
