Safety Manager Job at City of Evansville
DUTIES: Will coach and direct safety activities for each department. Endorses corrective actions to align safety culture and is knowledgeable of laws, policies, regulations and guidelines related to various positions. Creates a framework for a safe work environment and directs. Keeps management informed on related safety issues. Recommends and issues disciplinary action when employees fail to follow the guidelines for safe work practices. Routinely monitors, inspects and documents safety performance of each department. Conducts grounds survey on periodic and regular basis to detect violations, hazards and incorrect work practices. Prepares and submits annual safety budget evaluation to Director of Human Resources. Supervises and assigns duties to the Safety Specialist position.
QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s Degree in Health and Safety, Safety Engineering, Environmental Health, or related field preferred and/or 3+ years of experience leading a safety program. Knowledge of administrative procedures with training and/or experience in safety, industrial engineering, personnel or public administration. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Able to deal with persons at all levels with tact and confidentiality. Able to develop written policies and procedures. Ability to learn and understand a variety of laws, rules, and regulations. Must possess a valid Driver’s License.
