Camp Goals
Dexter Southfield Summer Camps offer family-focused co-ed programs that engage campers in a safe, fun environment where they can learn, grow, and play. We provide children ages 3.5 to 13 with state-of-the-art facilities, a variety of daily activities, and a team of experienced staff.
General Responsibilities
- Arrive at work by 7:30 a.m. and work until 3:45 p.m.
- Responsible for the care and supervision of all medical services for the summer camp season.
- Provide excellent medical attention and care for all ill or injured campers and staff throughout the summer.
- Provide first aid for a myriad of minor issues such as cuts, scrapes, bruises, bee stings, dehydration, and sun burns.
- Store, organize, and administer prescription and over-the-counter medications.
- Assist in organizing and setting up the camp Health Office, and ensure that first aid supplies are fully stocked.
- Maintain camper and staff health forms and contact families who have not submitted health forms by the deadline.
- Responsible for exceptional customer service and communication to camp families regarding camper medical care.
- Keep a daily log of all camper and staff visits to the Health Office.
- Contact emergency services when necessary.
- Participate in pre-camp and in-service staff trainings.
- Expected to dress and act professionally and to reflect the Camp’s concern for safety.
- Some duties may be reassigned, and other duties may be assigned as required.
Minimum Qualifications
- Licensed as a registered nurse in the state of Massachusetts.
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- Current CPR, AED and first aid certifications required.
- Experience working with children and youth.
- Ability to maintain health forms and paperwork.
- Ability to maintain and administer all medications.
- Ability to make decisions and take initiative under pressure.
- Demonstrate leadership and communication skills.
Reports to: Director of Summer Camps
The work environment characteristics here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing essential duties of this job. Work in this classification is considered light physical work requiring the exertion of up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to move objects.
Our summer camp nurse will be responsible for a wide range of physical activities in multiple locations on and off campus in all types of weather. There will be times of strenuous physical activity as well as times of prolonged computer and desk work and everything in between these two.
