JOB SUMMARY/ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

This position will serve as a professional-level Senior Human Resources (HR) Consultant within the University under the general directions of the Employment Compliance Manager. The Senior Human Resources Consultant will provide executive level consultations, advice on recruitment strategies and help carry out both unit-level and campus-wide HR mission. This position will also be responsible for providing support to faculty, staff, volunteers and student employees for the provision of accurate and timely human resource management.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develops innovative sourcing and recruiting strategies to enhance the diversity of the University of Tennessee Health Science Center staff.
  • Partners with search committee chairs and hiring officials to provide guidance on the search process, ensuring compliance with all state, federal, and university policies.
  • Manages high- level executive searches with the support of the Office of Equity, Inclusion and Diversion in filling senior-level positions.
  • Develops documents including advertisements, search timelines, interview questions, candidate correspondence, scripts, feedback surveys, search exemption paperwork, offer letters, and other search-related items.
  • Schedules, organizes, manages logistics, and conducts confidential interviews including zoom, airport interviews, finalist visits, etc.
  • Applies knowledge and understanding of organizational culture, issues and work relationships to address HR situations, shares knowledge and critical thinking process and promotes the use of best practices to achieve mutually agreeable outcomes in the resolution of HR issues.
  • Serves as an ambassador for the university by providing information about benefits, UT culture, points of pride, and tradition.
  • Ensures candidates have a positive recruiting experience and that key individuals are included in the interview and evaluation process for candidates to ensure broad engagement.
  • Works with external search firms to negotiate contracts and serves as the institutional point-of-contact for UT System (UTSA) executive searches.
  • Assist with campus-wide compliance responsibilities, streamlining HR process and procedures, developing employment campus-wide training and employee engagement programs.
  • Maintain and developing strong partnerships within the university in evaluating and implementing policies and processes that add value to the campus talent management (i.e. sourcing, career development, resume writing, interviewing skills management/supervision; training).
  • Advises and collaborates with hiring managers to resolve difficult issues in assigned areas.
  • Supports the onboarding and off boarding of employees consistent with University policies and procedures.
  • Prepares and/or approves proposed personnel actions using HR management systems in a manner that assures compliance with applicable federal, state, and university policies and procedures.
  • Conducts appropriate follow-up or perform troubleshooting to assure proposed personnel actions are successfully routed and processed by the relevant University offices.
  • Assists in coordinating talent management initiatives and synthesizing and evaluating compiled statistical reports as it relates to the Workforce development plan.
  • Support applicants as they engage the employment office as it relates to persons applying for positions, externally posting positions and answering general inquiries about benefits, compensation, and other information.
  • Identifies workforce trends, and recognizes the impact of policies and procedures and laws.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION: Bachelor’s Degree (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED)

EXPERIENCE: Three (3) years of diverse experience at the HR professional level covering a range of HR disciplines, (recruitment, employee relations, benefits, and compensation). Recruiting experience is highly preferred.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILL, AND ABILITIES

  • Demonstrated working knowledge of federal and state employment laws and regulations. Prior experience in higher education setting is highly preferred.
  • Must possess excellent oral and written communication skills, sound business judgment, tact, and diplomacy.
  • The ability to interact with personnel at all levels of the School/Division and University.
