Jacobs is currently interviewing candidates for a Systems Engineer to contribute to humanity’s return & exploration of the Moon, and then onto Mars! The position supports our NASA customer/ESSCA contract located within MSFC in Huntsville, AL.

Position Description:

This position will provide technical leadership and Systems Engineering and Integration (SE&I) support to the Technical Management Branch (EV71) and the Human Lander Systems (HLS) Program.

Responsibilities:

Specific support to be provided includes, but is not limited to, the following:

  • Coordinate and interface with Engineering organizations and the HLS Program.

  • Evaluate, select, and apply standard System Engineering (SE) techniques, procedures, and criteria to implement for this effort.

  • Execute Integrated Performance/Mission Planning.

  • Develop and/or mature Concept of Operations documentation.

  • Mature and maintain the HLS Program Technical Management Plan (TMP).

  • Coordinate and track various Ground Rules and Assumptions (GR&A) of the Mission Planning Team, both internal and external to the HLS Program. This includes, but is not limited to GR&A related to:

    • Mission Analysis and Integrated Assessments (MAIA)

    • End to end Mission Performance Team (EMPT)

    • HLS to Orion

    • HLS to Gateway

  • Participate in reviews, meetings, TIMS, teleconferences, working groups, and trade studies.

  • Deliver project briefings to all levels of management.

Here’s What You’ll Need:

A degree in aerospace, mechanical, systems or a related engineering field or discipline is required. Typically, educational requirements are the equivalent of a BS with 5 to 10 years of experience, or a master’s with 3 to 8 years of relevant experience working on space launch systems and/or vehicles.

The candidate is required to have:

  • Knowledge of space vehicle DDT&E, Integration, and Mission Planning.

  • Knowledge of basic space vehicle design, functions, terminology, interfaces, technical disciplines, and system design.

  • Familiarity with NASA Program and Project Management Requirements as well as NASA Systems Engineering Processes and Requirements.

  • Knowledge and skills required to develop a Concept of Operations (ConOps).

  • Knowledge and skills required to develop Mission Planning Ground Rules and Assumptions (GR&A).

  • A strong ability to perform with limited direction and guidance.

  • Self-motivated, proactive, and effective team players with customer relations skills, familiar with working in a dynamic work environment.

  • Demonstrated experience building strong working relationships with multiple stakeholders, organizing and facilitating meetings/technical discussions.

  • Intermediate skills using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams & Outlook) are required.

  • Excellent written and oral technical communication skills, with the ability to clearly define and describe a technical subject to peers across various engineering disciplines.

  • Demonstrated experience developing and delivering project-level briefings.

Desired qualifications and experience (presence of one or more of these qualifications will be used as a selection factor):

  • Familiarity with specific NASA Systems Engineering policies and procedures related to technical management such as the NASA Space Flight Program and Project Management Requirements (NPR 7120) and NASA Systems Engineering Processes and Requirements (NPR 7123).

  • Experience integrating with disciplines for design, analyses, and operation of space vehicles.

  • Experience with the Space Shuttle vehicle, the Space Launch System (SLS), or other similar space vehicles and programs is highly desired.


Essential Functions

Work Environment:

Office environment. Requires ability to provide clear, concise, accurate and timely communication, both verbally and in writing (100%). Requires ability to interact professionally with co-workers, management, and client (100%). Requires travel in the domestic USA (<15%).

Physical Requirements:

Requires sitting for extended periods of time in meetings with peers, management, and with our client at NASA facilities to discuss technical issues (10%). Also, requires sitting for extended periods of time at a desk to write reports and perform engineering tasks (80%). Requires ability to use stairs or elevators for access between floors and multiple buildings at NASA and Jacobs facilities (10%).

Equipment and Machines:

Requires ability to operate a personal computer, a telephone, fax machine, copier, calculator, and other general office equipment (100%).

Attendance:

Normal workday is from 7:30 a.m. through 4:30 p.m., Monday thru Friday. Minimal overtime may be required (10%) to meet schedule milestones and to support technical demands of the job. Regular attendance is a necessity and adequate arrangements for delegating duties during absences are required.

Other Essential Functions:

The ability to work independently with minimal supervision, and to make rational decisions, and to exercise good judgment is essential (100%). Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk/hazard to the employee or others.
