The Technology Consulting Leader supports providers and health plans by aligning their technology strategy to their business strategy, enabling clients to solve business problems by developing an enterprise architecture, designing and executing technology implementations, providing expert advisory services on data strategy and data management services and developing and executing digital transformation initiatives with a specific focus on emerging technology and intelligent automation. Optum’s Technology Consulting practice is uniquely positioned to support providers and health plans by evaluating existing systems and data tools, designing solutions to accelerate business and technology performance, building sustainable processes and tools to align with business strategy and driving performance improvement. We manage the solutions in partnership with clients to ensure long-term sustainability and success is achieved.

As the Leader of Technology Consulting, you will provide leadership and overall accountability for the practice, including defining and executing vision & strategy, developing and delivering solution offerings and recruiting, mentoring and leading a high-performing team to ensure achievement of performance expectations.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Define, maintain and clearly communicate the overall Technology Consulting practice strategy & vision, design and develop key solution offerings & associated go-to-market plans to execute against the vision
  • Maintain market and competitive awareness to inform strategy, offerings, value propositions and key differentiators
  • Set and forecast practice and sub-practice targets and MBOs including sales, revenue, margin, utilization and Net Promoter Score
  • Support the development of consulting methodologies to address the current challenges facing health systems related to the adoption and use of health IT
  • Establish and maintain a strong, collaborative and market relevant senior leadership team
  • Articulate a market-relevant thought leadership agenda that establishes/improves market credibility & elevates cSuite relationships
  • Review and approve client proposals and pricing proformas for quality assurance & contribution to practice MBOs
  • Support, guide and develop proposals and statements of work for client specific engagements
  • Participate, support and complete RFI, RFP and sales processes and guide financial analysis for proposed solutions
  • Establish trusted partner relationships to expand Optum’s footprint with target clients
  • Directly oversee the delivery of large-scale projects/programs (ie, defined as high cost, high complexity and/or high risk)
  • Create a team-oriented work climate that enables professional development and encourages creative solutions and strategies
  • Provide coaching and mentoring to develop and retain talent
  • Set aggressive talent development and recruiting approach to raise the bar for performance expectations

Required Qualifications:

  • 15+ years of experience working for or consulting with healthcare organizations
  • 5+ years of experience with Payer and/or Provider Technology products, systems, or functions
  • 3+ years of experience in collaborative selling to healthcare organizations or other sales experience
  • Experience managing a $100M + consulting practice with a track-record of growth and profitability
  • Experience developing value propositions for consulting, outsourcing and/or technology service offerings
  • Proven experience with Electronic Health Records (ie, Epic or Cerner)
  • Experience leading a team and coaching/mentoring future leaders
  • Ability to bring out the best in people and teams in support of a shared vision
  • Willingness to travel up to 50% of the time on a sustained basis (if needed)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree
  • Experience with leadership roles within a management consulting organization in a health-specific practice area
  • Track record of collaboration within a complex, global, matrixed organization

California, Colorado, Connecticut, Nevada, New York, Rhode Island, or Washington Residents Only: The salary range for California, Colorado, Connecticut, Nevada, New York, Rhode Island or Washington residents is $300,000 to $375,000. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
