GSNENY operates two summer overnight camps. Some staff positions can work at both camps over the course of this summer. Hidden Lake Camp: Nestled on four hundred acres in the southern portion of the Adirondack Park, Hidden Lake Camp comprises a small private lake, streams, low mountains, woodlands, and beautiful hiking trails. The lake is an ideal setting for swimming, canoeing, and stand-up paddle-boarding, and kayaking. Camp facilities include a large playfield, high and low ropes courses, platform tents and lean-to units, a modern dining hall, a health lodge, a shower house, and buildings for activities and programs. Campers range from second through twelfth grade.

Lake Clear Camp is one of the Girl Scouts of Northeastern New York overnight and day camp in Lake Clear, NY, close to Saranac Lake and Lake Placid, NY.

Situated on 91 scenic acres of land on a peninsula on Lake Clear is an Adirondack gem. The camp is surrounded by breathtaking state land in the Adirondack Park, adjacent to the St. Regis Canoe area. Facilities at Lake Clear Camp include renovated cabins with full bathrooms, a dining hall, a health center, and buildings for programs and activities.

Lake Clear Camp operates as an overnight camp Sunday afternoon through Friday afternoon from August 2 to August 18, 2023. There are 2 weekly sessions of day camp as well. All staff attend paid pre–camp training, and there is a potential for additional days for camp shutdown from August 21 – 23, 2023.

Employees working the entire season at Lake Clear Camp will receive an $85 retention bonus.

PURPOSE: Responsible for developing, implementing, facilitating and supervising all programs and community living operations within the unit and evaluating that activities/program are appropriate for the camp setting.

ACCOUNTABLE TO: Assistant Camp Director

JOB QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:

· Willingness to abide by the policies and practices of the Girl Scouts of Northeastern New York, Inc.

· At least 21 years of age, or at least two years camp experience.

· Previous experience working with children in large groups.

· Holds valid Driver’s License and is cleared to drive the Council’s vehicles through the Council’s insurance agency.

· Demonstrated the ability to guide/supervise children and adults.

· Certified Sex Offender Registry and background checks will be conducted.

· Desire and ability to work with and relate to children and adults in an outdoor environment.

· Current certification in First Aid and CPR for the Professional Rescuer or individual is willing to complete certification course during designated training day.

· Prior camp experience and/or interest in the Girl Scout Camping program.

· Prioritize the needs of the camp and the positive experience of campers at all times.

· Good health and stamina necessary to work in the camp environment.

· The acceptance of irregular work hours.

· The acceptance and understanding that employment is at a resident (overnight) camp.

PRINCIPAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Supervises and submits a written evaluation for all direct reports as per the organization summer camp staff chart.

2. Assists unit staff with the daily unit planning to assure that the camp program is being implemented at a high level.

3. Works with, supervises and mentor’s all counselor in training campers using the GSNENY curriculum/program.

4. Works with the Camp Director and Assistant Camp Director to help build staff morale and growth by making themselves visible as a role model around camp.

5. Works as a team player. Motivate and encourage staff to ensure the campers well-being, fun, and happiness.

6. Coordinates all camp and overnight programming in conjunction with other staff members and counselor in training campers.

7. Coordinates (with assistance from the Assistant. Camp Director) the staff night out schedule to insure there is adequate night coverage.

8. Maintains records of all unit activities.

9. Keeps open lines of communication on a daily basis with the Camp Director and Assistant Camp Director on the interaction of the unit staff.

10. Participates in all aspects of camp including pre-camp training, open house, and post camp.

11. Apply behavior management techniques to conflicts with children when necessary. Report incidents and accidents to supervisor or nurse immediately.

12. Report suspected child abuse to supervisor immediately.

13. Works with other Administrative Staff members to conduct nightly rounds of the camp property.

14. Will share the responsibility, with the other Administrative Staff, for required on property weekend coverage.

15. Will live in a tent/cabin unit and assist the other unit staff members with all unit program and supervision of campers.

16. Required to stay on the property during hours of operation and provide program coverage during weekend events.

17. Accepts other responsibilities as deemed necessary by the Camp Director and/or Assistant Camp Director

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Assist the campers in emergency situations.

Lift 35 pounds.

Possess strength and endurance required to maintain constant supervision

Demonstrate sensitivity to the needs of campers.

Demonstrate enthusiasm, sense of humor, patience, self control, and ability to adapt well to changing situations.

Participate in structured and unstructured activities.

Provide excellent customer service to other staff members, campers, caregivers, and visitors to camp.

Accept and follow directions both in verbal and written form.
