Unit Manager LPN (Preferred) Job at Mulberry Creek Assisted Living
Mulberry Creek Assisted Living is currently looking for candidates interested in our Unit Manager position at our 60 Bed Assisted Living Facility in Martinsville VA.
The Unit Manager reports to and receives general direction from the Chief Administrative officer and is responsible for compliance with current applicable federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, regulations that govern long-term care facilities, and established policies and procedures to enhance the quality of life of our residents by planning, organizing, developing and directing the overall operations of the Nursing Department. The Unit Manager provides leadership with regard to clinical practice, team development, quality assurance, and strategic input to assure each resident receives the necessary nursing, medical, and psychosocial services to attain and maintain the highest possible mental and physical functional status.
LPN Preferred
2 years supervisor experience required
Duties of a unit manager
Maintaining and restoring the health of their patients
Managing daily medication schedules
Enforcing health and safety regulations
Solving staffing issues and shortages
Ensuring their unit meets federal, state and company guidelines
Completing admission and discharge forms
Delivering hands-on care and medication administration as needed
Communicating procedural issues with the administrator and working to correct them
Acting as a liaison between patients' families and healthcare staff
Managing Inventory

Management and leadership abilities: These abilities are useful as a unit manager because of the daily responsibility to supervise and mentor nursing staff.
Verbal and written communication skills: These soft skills help unit managers describe complex information in an easy-to-understand manner to patient. Communication also helps unit manager convey details to their staff efficiently.
Medical knowledge: This knowledge, including emergency and long-term care experience, is essential to providing quality care to patients and providing advanced training to nursing staff.
Analytical thinking: Being an analytical thinker is useful in the day-to-day situations in which unit managers need to assess patient conditions and medical emergencies.
Customer service and interpersonal skills: Unit managers often need to meet patients' needs and effectively work alongside nursing staff, administrative personnel and families.
Empathy and patience: These soft skills help unit managers navigate through the difficult and emotional situations related to patient care.
Ability to handle pressure: A unit manager's work and environment can often be fast-paced and stressful, making the ability to handle pressure important.
