Job Overview

With the help of the amazing staff at the Veterinary Cancer Group - one of the largest and most technologically sophisticated veterinary oncology groups, we are making this come true in our area. Our Veterinary Technicians are an integral part of the hospital. Veterinary Technicians are responsible for a variety of tasks related to customer service and patient care within the veterinary practice. Tasks include animal handling, pre and post-operative patient care, creating and presenting financial options and estimates, accurately entering service charges into the client processing database, extensive client interaction, and preparing medications.

Our Ideal Candidate

• Experience as a Veterinary Technician, RVT preferred
• Experience in Oncology is a plus
• Team player and willingness to cross train in all areas

Job Responsibilities:

• Must be proficient in catheterizations
• Research refills according to last visit & last refills
• Prepare ultrasound request forms, and confirm appointments
• Begin re-check appointment by updating history/current meds
• Prepare packaging of specimens for transport to specific labs and ensure proper billing and complete history with assistance of the doctor (biopsy samples predominantly.)
• Calculate fluid rates and drug dosages
• Perform routine laboratory analyses, including hematology, serology, blood chemistry, Administer and monitor anesthesia in accordance with state regulations
• Take EKG tracings
• Administer oral drugs and SQ, IV or IM injections
• Prepare cytology slides for examination
• Counsel clients regarding home care, medication administration
• Able to fill out lab request forms, procedural request forms, charts and treatment sheets and complete any other necessary forms
• Take and record radiographs
• Provide quality patient care for hospitalized and Chemotherapy Day patients
• Able to assess changes in hospitalized patients’ condition and advise Doctor, updates owners daily
• Can calculate, prepare and administer chemotherapy drugs with minimal supervision.
• Perform bone marrow biopsies, skin punch biopsies and fine needle aspirates.
• Is familiar with most often used protocols and can prepare treatment estimates.
• Has a good understanding of side-effects from chemotherapeutic drugs and their treatments.
• Provide client education regarding chemotherapy protocols. Counsel clients regarding home care, medication administration.
• Prepare and present estimates to clients
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Schedule: Full-time; 10 hour shifts
Pay Range: $23.00-$27.00
