This is a limited position that is currently funded for one year, continuation after one year is dependent on availability of grant funding.
Denver County Court is seeking a Program Coordinator for the Competency Diversion Program.
Denver County Court's Competency Diversion program serves individuals with misdemeanor and felony level offenses. The program identifies individuals who are not likely competent to proceed and diverts them to community mental health treatment and services, resulting in no charges being filed and thus reduces the filing of formal competency in the Court system.
The DCC
The mission of Denver County Court is to administer justice fairly, efficiently, and effectively; provide excellent customer service, and foster a positive environment where employees enjoy their work. The City and County of Denver's third branch of government is comprised of 19 judges, 3 full-time magistrates, and 300 staff members. Case types include state, civil, small claims, traffic, criminal, and other general sessions cases within the City and County of Denver. The Denver County Court proudly serves the community and continually seeks ways to incorporate procedural fairness and evidence-based practices.
The Division
The Program Coordinator position is located in the Lindsey Flanigan Court House at 520 W. Colfax Ave., Denver, CO 80204 and is an on-site position from 8:00 - 4:30 PM.
Competency Diversion is a collaboration between Denver County Court, the Colorado State Public Defenders Office, the Denver District Attorney's Office, Denver Pretrial Services, and WellPower.
The Job
This position coordinates and works in collaboration with the Program Administrator, stakeholders across the criminal justice system, case managers, and treatment providers to support program participants. The coordinator assists in screenings and release planning of participants, data tracking and collaboration with program stakeholders. This position requires frequent visits and coordination with county jails, including jail administration, jail medical and/or jail mental health providers. Finally, this position is knowledgeable about community resources and works closely with various community stakeholders. The coordinator reports directly to the Program Administrator.

As a Program Coordinator, you can expect to:
- Conduct screening with all referred individuals as needed
- Attend court hearings for referred individuals on bond
- Field questions and make connections with State Forensic Navigators, Jail Behavioral Health Staff, and other State competency related stakeholders.
- Coordinate and communicate regularly with Competency Diversion stakeholders to implement, maintain, and support the Competency Diversion program
- Provide brief risk and needs assessment and coordination to services that include a continuum of high and low intensity services that will engage their participation while in the program and their plans upon release. These will include, but be limited to, services which:
- Help referred individual evaluate both their strengths and symptoms, and facilitate referred individual setting their own goals, and plan for appropriate services;
- Assist referred individual who need special living arrangements in locating a rehabilitative or supportive housing arrangement. The choices should be broad enough to allow each consumer and opportunity to live in an atmosphere offering the degree of support necessary, while also providing incentives and encouragement for referred individual to assume increasing responsibilities for their lives;
- Offer support, assistance, consultation, and education to families, friends, landlords, employers, community agencies, and others who come in contact with referred individual, in order to maximize benefits and minimize problems associated with the presence of these persons in the community;
- Identify and work with potential natural support systems such as neighborhood networks, churches, and community organizations
- Make full utilization of the referred individual’s support systems to encourage program engagement
- Reach out to program eligible referred individual, inform them of, and educate them about available services in the community
- Maintain a trauma-informed environment of wellbeing
- Other duties as assigned
About You
Additionally, the ideal candidate will have the following:
- One (1) to two (2) years of experience in working with the mental health population
- Clinical social work licensure
- Spanish language fluency and ability to work in a bilingual capacity
- Knowledge or experience with the competency process as it pertains to the court
- Experience working in a forensic social work environment
- Knowledge or experience in the field of public health
- Strong critical thinking, decision making, and problem-solving skills
- Exceptional follow-up, teamwork and relationship building skills
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Strong planning, organizational, and evaluation skills to assess program needs in a fast-paced environment

- Education: Graduation from high school or the possession of a GED, HiSET or TASC Certificate
- Five (5) years of technical or administrative experience performing standard research and evaluation, case management, and/or implementing work processes
- Equivalency: One (1) year of the appropriate type and level of education may be substituted for each required year experience
