General Description

Under general supervision, responsible for the organization, promotion, and implementation of multiple community special events, Apopka Amphitheater events, and Camp Wewa rentals and retreats. Assists with the development and implementation of new special events and community activities. Works with a variety of promoters and special event applicants to ensure City policies, procedures, and regulations are being followed for privately organized special events.

Work is performed under the direction of the Events Manager with considerable independent judgment, initiative, and supervision. Work is reviewed through observation and consultation.



Essential Job Functions

Plan, organize, coordinate, and oversee a variety of City special events, often simultaneously.

Coordinate and supervise event service contractors and assigned department staff during event operations.

Develops and executes special event marketing, public relations, and social media engagement opportunities for assigned City events.

Provides front-line customer service to special event permit applicants, event promoters, facility renters, and the general public.

Assists with the development and maintenance of the City special event sponsorship opportunities and promotes/solicits sponsors and community partners for City special events.

Work requires constant public contact, use of the telephone, reading, writing, typing, very frequent walking, sitting, standing and occasional lifting of 40 lbs., bending, stooping, running, pushing, pulling, kneeling, crawling, climbing, and reaching overhead. Works frequently in extreme weather.

As duties require, operates a pick-up truck, step van and other related city vehicles. Performs other duties or tasks as assigned.

May work in extreme weather.

Must be available to work on evenings, weekends, and holidays, as required.

Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with specialization in event management, business management, parks and recreation management, or related field is desirable.

Minimum one-year experience in performing progressively responsible special event coordination or marketing duties.

A combination of education and experience may qualify a candidate for consideration.

Professional certification through the National Recreation and Parks Association and/or event management certification is desirable.

Must possess a valid State of Florida driver's license.
