Job Summary:

Columbia Industries is searching for (2) experienced consulting grant writers to play a pivotal role in generating revenue and increasing awareness of Columbia Industries programs. The Contracted Grant Writer will be passionate advocates for individuals with disabilities, veterans, those escaping domestic violence, abuse, students, those having barriers to employment, and other types of barriers.

The ideal candidate(s) will be effective at amplifying the stories of the individuals we serve and our programs, communicating the urgency of our mission and celebrating the success of our outcomes. These two new positions will work in close partnership with executive leadership, to strategically build and maintain robust revenue-generating grants for our programs. Blending best practices with creative strategy, the Contract Grant Writer should respond to Columbia Industries individual needs to best serve the local community and the individuals in our programs. These contracted positions will have direct impact on building sustainable funding for our growing network, helping us work towards our vision to make sure that individuals who need our wrap-around program services, are able to receive help. This role offers the opportunity for ongoing, contracted work.

Founded in 1963, Columbia Industries is a Washington State 501(c)(3) social enterprise operating within Benton and Franklin Counties. CI is a dynamic organization whose mission is to support and empower individuals with disabilities and other challenges to help them achieve personal success, including community employment and meaningful social engagement. CI’s mission is supported through contracts, grants, business operations and fundraising. CI has a unique corporate structure: a non-profit parent and four, for-profit subsidiaries that provide financial resources for support of the mission and vision of Columbia Industries.

Columbia Industries provides employment services, specialized vocational and life skills training, job coaching and placement, direct employment opportunities, a center for social enrichment, and connectivity to community resources for individuals with disabilities or barriers to employment. These services are available to our clients and program participants as well as to the community at large.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Compile, write, edit, and project manage the submission of all grant applications, exhibiting strong writing skills and a command of grammar and spelling.
  • Collaborate with team, existing and prospective leaders, to develop narrative content and budgets for proposals falling within assigned program focus areas.
  • Maintain clear and accurate written and electronic records of grant proposals, reports, and submission confirmations, including grant activity tracking in shared drives and databases.
  • Support the team in maintaining current and accurate grants calendars including tracking deliverables, due dates, and project information that supports the timely completion of projects.
  • Assist in research and identification of grants appropriate to Columbia Industries.
  • Maintain confidential information in a sensitive and appropriate manner.

Required Education, Experience & Abilities

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in a related field.
  • Two or more years of grant-writing experience, preferably in the non-profit sector.
  • Demonstrated success in obtaining grant driven funding from foundations, corporations and/or public funding sources.
  • Access to own computer, internet, and telephone. All work will be conducted remotely.
  • Exceptional ability to create and edit written materials, both accurately and consistently.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills that result in compelling messaging and sustainable relationship with staff and leadership.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail, strong computer skills, and general understanding of financial principles.
  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative, work independently, and effectively solve problems.

The expectation of this position is that the contractor will meet his/her goals as set by the Chief Administrative Officer. The anticipated time frame to meet goals is an average of 20 hours per week.

Pay: $21.00 an hour/20 hours per week, contracted rate. This is a part-time contracted position.
