Major and Planned Gift Officer (MGPO) is responsible for all aspects of the Planned Giving Program as well as foundation grants. The MGPO will assist Catholics to grow in their understanding of living their faith through stewardship-seeing all as a gift from God and responding in gratitude by generously sharing one’s gifts with others. She/he will successfully develop and implement critical strategies resulting in the achievement of short and long-term fundraising goals. The MGPO will also be a resource for parishes and schools seeking development strategies. Key responsibilities include effectively prospecting, cultivating, soliciting, securing, stewarding, recording, and reporting major and planned gifts to ensure donor centricity.
This position reports to the Executive Director of the Vermont Catholic Community Foundation and Development for the Roman Catholic Diocese of Burlington requiring interaction with senior diocesan staff, high-level volunteer leaders, financial advisors and VCCF board members in the execution of the planned giving program.
Requirements of the Major and Planned Gift Officer
· Participate in the development of the strategic plan for the acquisition and retention of planned giving and major donors to the foundation.
· Development (in conjunction with the Executive Director) of an annual work plan with goals for number of prospects, number of planned gifts, and number of prospect visits sufficient to meet established fundraising targets.
· Develop and implement short-and long-term plans for development specific to individual schools, parishes and the Diocese planned giving/major gifts.
· Build, grow, and manage a portfolio of planned and major gift prospects based on new and past donor level.
· Research and collect information to identify prospects for planned gifts, including tailored approaches/strategies to the prospect (i.e., who should solicit, when, amount, purpose of gift, impact on community, etc.) Direct maintenance of files and preparation of prospect lists, contact reports, and donor briefs.
· Prepare charitable gift tax calculations for prospective donors using planned giving software. Supply necessary information to donors, attorneys, and financial advisors.
· Work with the Executive Director to develop marketing materials. Conduct necessary research; draft and edit all materials; review and approve print design and web copy; coordinate all aspects of mailings with staff assistant as needed.
· Write proposals, solicitation letters, acknowledgements, and other development materials for prospects and donors.
· Research and write grants to support Catholic ministries in Vermont.
· Prepare educational articles for newsletter, website, and social media.
· Conduct gift planning presentations to donors and Catholic leaders.
· Serve as a liaison for Catholic leaders-pastors, agency heads, high school Principals and designated development offices, and development professionals at local Catholic entities-between them, their donors, and the foundation.

Responsibilities of the Major and Planned Gift Officer
· Work with legal counsel and fiduciary institutions in preparing documentation for planned gift prospective donors. Implement and monitor individual trust arrangement and gift annuities.
· Serve as resource to staff and donors on chartable giving issues and tax law; advise attorneys, financial advisors, and other professionals on gift policies; attends staff meetings to discuss and consult on major gift reviews and strategy sessions.
· Analyze program results and cost effectiveness of Planned Giving Program; develop reports and materials for presentation to Board; recommend annual goals and budget projections.
· Work occasional events held evenings and weekends
· Adhere to regulations and policies governing donor privacy and data security.
· Perform other duties as assigned.
