About the role
Muon seeks an experienced Mission Manager to join our team. At Muon, the Mission Manager serves as the primary point of contact with our customers and leads the program from the start of proposal development and contract negotiation through launch, operations and data delivery. They are the final decision maker for both programmatic and technical decisions on the program. They can communicate effectively with both a customer and an internal team and have the technical background to support decision making. The ideal candidate is a self-starter who has a passion for doing work that matters.
Being an early-stage startup with a small team, both breadth and depth are critical. We expect this person to be able to develop and manage the program-level schedule, support and drive technical requirements development and documentation, drive program trades, manage program risks, and collaborate with engineering and production to execute the program, all while ensuring we meet or exceed all of our contractual customer requirements.
Responsibilities
Take responsibility for end-to-end mission success
Work with internal and external stakeholders to develop and execute missions
Collaborate with other subsystem representatives across team boundaries to consider all necessary trades and ensure end-to-end mission success
Develop and present technical content on complex designs, trade studies, risks, and issues.
Collaborate with engineering and production groups to understand vehicle readiness and how changes impact requirements, vehicle risks, and launch dates
Coordinate and chair customer reviews and ensure that contract deliverables are on time and per customer’s expectations, including taking responsibility for payment milestones
Responsible for ensuring regulator coordination is on schedule and facility generation of materials required (e.g. FCC license and NOAA earth remote sensing license)
Manage execution of sub-contracts, collaboration activities, and task agreements on the program
Qualifications
B.S. or higher degree in an engineering field
5+ years of experience in a related field, with exposure to spacecraft systems, orbital mechanics, and simulation techniques
5+ years of technical project management experience
Experience with at least one end-to-end project that includes hardware and/or software delivery
Excellent communication and presentation skills
Excited to work in a fast-paced environment with new challenges each week
Nice-to-have Skills
Professional experience working with launch vehicles, spacecraft, or other aerospace systems especially in requirements management and customer mission execution
Experience with spacecraft or related flight operations
Highly detail oriented, diligent, hard working with excellent customer interface skills
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, autonomous, and demanding start-up atmosphere
Direct experience negotiating technical deliverables and scope

At Muon Space salary is only part of our total compensation package. In addition to salary, Muon Space provides equity compensation as well as benefits including medical, dental, and vision insurance, a 401k retirement plan, life insurance, and an employee development program.
The salary range for this role is $100K and $190K and will depend on a candidate's skills, qualifications, and experience as defined during the interview process.

To conform to U.S. Government space technology export regulations, including the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) or Export Administration Regulations (EAR) you must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S. protected person as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.
