Located along the clear blue waters of Lake Michigan, the City of Charlevoix, Michigan, population (2,347) is seeking candidates to lead their municipal police department as Chief. Charlevoix is best known for its bustling downtown, connection to the waterfront and picturesque sunsets. People from all over Michigan, and throughout the country, consider Charlevoix their “recreational paradise.”
The Charlevoix Police Department consists of seven full-time members and has an annual budget of $833,000. The department responds to approximately 5,000 calls per year. The Police Chief reports directly to the City Manager and is responsible for developing and directing a complete program of policing and law enforcement. The Charlevoix Police Department aims to protect the lives and property of the public and to preserve peace in the City. The next Police Chief will benefit greatly from the excellent, professional relationship that exists between the City Manager and City Council. For the past seven years, the current City Manager has served the city with distinction.
The ideal candidate will bring a volume of law enforcement experience. At a minimum, the position requires at least three years of command experience at the Sergeant level or higher. Most importantly, the next Charlevoix Police Chief will bring an unblemished record of personal integrity and adherence to the highest form of ethical standards.
