General Description

Responsible clerical work, including some administrative responsibility. Some entry level work involving planning, coordinating, implementing, directing, and supervising leisure programs and activities in an assigned recreation area for adults and/or children.


Essential Job Functions

Independently researches and assembles daily financial reports and spreadsheets, reports, and data for superior. Drafts, proofreads, and processes reports, letters, and documents for supervisor's signature. Follows up to ensure timely results. Schedules appointments and keeps a calendar of events related to office. Assists in administration of recreational center; i.e., answering telephone, registering participants, cash handling, opening and closing facility, setting up and taking down equipment and facilities according to assignment and schedule. Provides information on the operation of the office to persons seeking information. Sets up files and files letters and related material in an accepted manner. Organizes, coordinates, promotes, and supervises recreation programs and activities: games, sports, music, dancing, arts and crafts, nature activities, informal group activities, tournaments, socials, and classes, as well as special events, by developing and adapting programs through consultation with individuals and specific age groups to meet the needs of the County. Gathers all necessary equipment or supplies for programs. Assists with light maintenance and custodial work required to support recreation programs.Performs related work as required.

  • Knowledge of office practices and procedures.
  • Ability to prepare routine documents, spreadsheets and compose letters.
  • Knowledge of a variety of recreation activities.
  • Ability to make decisions in accordance with the rules, regulations, and policies.
  • Ability to establish and maintain harmonious working relationships with employees and the public.
  • Ability to read for comprehension.

Minimum Requirements

PHYSICAL SKILLS: Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and also push or pull heavy objects. May use a handling device (dolly, cart, etc.) or work with another team member to lift and/or move excessively heavy objects. Ability to bend, stoop, and squat frequently. Ability to communicate effectively using verbal, written and visual communication.

EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: Graduation from high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma. One (1) year of clerical experience including typing experience and the operation of a personal computer. One (1) year of experience in recreation or a related field. Experience with Microsoft Office or similar software.

LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS OR REGISTRATIONS: Must possess a valid Florida driver's license. Certification in CPR and First Aid must be received within six (6) months of employment.
