Job Summary
The division of Periodontics is seeking a Surgical Dental Assistant. The person in this position will assist dental care providers by using four-handed chair side dental assisting, expanded duties and surgical dental assisting, as well as assisting with oral, IV and other sedation.
The successful candidate will also take radiographs, assist during medical emergencies, monitor patient vitals, clean rooms, schedule patients, and other assisting and clinical duties.
The University of Kentucky considers the health, safety and well-being of our entire community to be a top priority. For areas that fall under the federal CMS mandate, start of employment cannot occur until two weeks after receiving the full COVID-19 vaccination series or upon obtaining an approved exemption. Only vaccines approved by the World Health Organization can be accepted.

Skills / Knowledge / Abilities
Expanded duties dentistry, basic life support (BLS), communication, organization, planning, dependability, attention to detail, and customer service.

Preferred Education/Experience
Four or more years experience in four-handed dentistry and/or surgical dental assisting with two or more years experience as an expanded duties dental assistant, knowledge of proper infection control techniques in dentistry, Anesthesia certification, certified BLS instructor, and Radiation Safety certificate preferred.
