Purpose of Position

The Fleet Manager is responsible for the overall performance of the yard, including operations, safety, housekeeping, and security. Responsible for achieving company objectives regarding cost, productivity, customer service, and implementing company policies. The Fleet Manager reports to the Chief Operating Officer.

Qualifications

Education, Training and Experience: Must be 18 years of age or older. High school diploma/GED. Experience with construction tools required.

Licensure/Credentials: Valid Washington State driver’s license in good standing. Forklift certification must obtain within first 2 weeks of hire. DOT Medical Card and first aid certification must obtain within 2 weeks of hire.

Working Conditions

Physical Demand: Requires normal/corrected vision and hearing to normal range Work is performed indoors and outdoors. Exposure to extreme temperatures, loud noise, dust, and gas. Constantly works near moving mechanical parts. Able to lift up to 90 pounds (physical effort is required). Frequent stooping, bending, squatting, and kneeling is required. Frequent holding and grasping with the hands when loading and unloading equipment.

Equipment Used: Forklifts, basic construction tools, trucks, trailers, pressure washers, air compressors, propane tanks, computer, and printer.

Hours of Work: Monday-Friday. Some overtime hours may be needed on occasion. May need to work an occasional Saturday during the busy season.

Essential Job Functions

1. Responsible for the upkeep and maintenance of the yard, parking areas, and buildings.

2. Schedules yard staff and plans, directs, and controls all activities regarding the yard.

3. Supervises mechanics

4. Establishes all policy and procedures for the yard.

5. Monitors fleet and makes sure all vehicles are in working order, clean, and all required safety items are in trucks prior to leaving the yard.

6. Manages inventory and makes sure that all equipment leaving the yard is in good working order.

7. Reports fleet concerns to mechanic as needed.

8. Manages materials at the yard, including tracking quantities of materials coming into and leaving the yard.

9. Ensures all employees in the yard are following safety procedures.

10. Reports any unsafe conditions, acts, or injuries to the General Superintendent.

11. Conducts truck/trailer/forklift training for new employees.

12. Responsible for selecting, motivating, and developing yard staff.

13. Supervises yard staff and monitors time and attendance.

14. Organizes workflow of yard staff and ensures that they understand their duties and/or delegated task.

15. Sets goals for performance and deadlines that comply with company’s plans and vision.

16. Effectively communicates with Project Managers and Superintendents to ensure efficiency of the yard.

17. Maintains GPS tracking system.

18. Performs other job-related duties as specified by management.

1. Knowledge of company equipment and fleet trucks.

2. Knowledge of company materials used for all projects.

3. Knowledge of company safety practices and procedures.

4. Knowledge of tools used daily.

5. Ability to identify and evaluate malfunctioning equipment and recommend corrective measures or repair.

6. Ability to read, write, and follow verbal direction.

7. Ability to multi-task daily.

8. Ability to stand for extended periods of time.

9. Ability to communicate effectively with co-workers and customers.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $40,000.00 - $77,000.00 per year
