Overview:

The Deputy Project Manager (DPM) is responsible for supporting the Senior Project Manager (SrPM) in establishing and piloting a project management program and supporting implementation. The nuclear facility processes need to be catered to the existing division and will include flow-processes, organizational chains, and consolidation of various plans and procedures. The structure of the project management program and the associated processes and procedures will be based on the principles established within the Project Management Institute (PMI), while maintaining consistency and compatibility with overarching programs and procedures that exist on the client site. Preference will be given to qualified candidates that have a Project Management Professional certification. Pilot projects that will be used to test and mature the program will include projects that might range from equipment design and installation to major facility upgrades. The successful candidate will also support pilot project activities, supporting planning meetings and execution and closeout of the projects consistent with established program processes and procedures.


The successful candidate will be responsible for incorporating corrective actions, feedback and lessons learned from the pilot project(s) into the project management program and working with the client to incorporate the program as part of their standard conduct of operations.


Responsibilities:

  • Support developing project management program consistent with PMI principles.
  • Provide effective communication to client organization and customers for pilot projects.
  • Support and/or lead pilot projects under the project management program.
  • Develop pilot project definition and scope, methods of accomplishment and project schedule and cost baselines (baselines include establishment of work activities, milestones, and task schedules).
  • Report status of activities – both development of project management program and pilot projects.
  • Support establishment of project management program and demonstration of its execution.
  • Support building project cost estimates and schedules.
  • Coordinate activities among design group, operations personnel, and subcontractors to achieve overall objectives.
  • Ensure proper review and approval of design documents, change orders, material requisitions and specifications for construction or procurement use.
  • Support monitoring of project(s) budget, schedule, scope, and risk and provide transparency to the customer.
  • Identify and manage risks and resolve problems and conflicts within the project and the project team.
  • Conduct periodic project meetings to promote and facilitate communication, review progress and performance, discuss issues and facilitate problem resolution.

Requirements:

  • Minimum bachelor's degree in engineering, construction or project management related field with minimum of 5 years of experience as a project manager, deputy or practical application equivalent of managing projects.
  • Must be familiar with safety standards and their practical application in the field.
  • Ability to prepare & provide information logically and organized.
  • Ability to identify sources of information, establish meetings with individual stakeholders.
  • Ability to be adaptable, work independently and meet schedule deadlines.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Be proficient in reading equipment and facility plans and specifications and contributing to their development.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with both verbal and written communication.
  • US Citizenship.
  • Successful drug screen.
  • Position is based in Knoxville TN Metropolitan area.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certified Project Management Professional.
  • 5+ years managing projects involving engineering design, equipment fabrication and testing, and facility upgrades.
  • Experience across the full project life cycle (initiation, planning, design, construction and startup/commissioning of projects).
  • Must understand risk management and its practical application to projects.
